Trying Hair Extensions for the First Time – Is it Worth it?
This week, I tried hair extensions for the very first time and in this post, I’m going to be sharing my thoughts, personal opinions, and recommendations.
The hair extensions that I tried were from a brand called Tim Carli — never heard of them? They’re fairly new to the market, but with 25% off your first purchase and a 60-day return policy, I thought, what’s to lose?
Make sure to watch the video below of me actually attempting to put the hair extensions in (and failing miserably). Hey, it’s not as easy as it looks! However, I think I finally got the hang of it by the end.
Positives
My first impressions of these extensions were that they were unbelievably soft and silky. Honestly, I don’t think my real hair has ever felt that silky-smooth, so I was immediately happy. But aside from how soft they were, they actually looked and felt very authentic as well.
I’ve seen some extensions (won’t name any names here) that look totally fake or horse-tail like. On the contrary, these extensions are perfect because they’re high quality, but also don’t break the bank. On Tim Carli’s website, you’ll notice different pricing options, even allowing you to pay in instalments (yes, please).
All in all, I felt super pretty and confident when all of the pieces were in place and styled in my hair. I’ve never had extensions in my hair before, so knowing what my hair could look like was a shock. Honestly, I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror and I didn’t want to take them out!
The Drawbacks
The only issue that I ran into when purchasing these extensions is the coloring. Since I have highlighted hair, it’s pretty difficult to determine what color my hair even is these days. Although the team at Tim Carli did assist me in choosing a color, it didn’t match my roots as closely as I would have liked them to.
Luckily, my hair is a blend of different blonde and brunette colors, so the extensions did blend it once they were all in together
As you can see, the chestnut brown color of the extensions did blend nicely with my blonde highlights, but without too many different color options, this may be more difficult for those of you who are pickier with your extension color.
Additionally, I really dislike the feeling of unnatural things on my body. I’ve always disliked acrylic nails and I cringe at the thought of eyelash extensions, so to be honest, I never really thought to try hair extensions either. The feeling of the clip-in extensions in my hair gives me anxiety thinking that they may be tearing at my real hair and causing damage.
Aside from the fact that I can really feel them in my hair, I also felt a bit self-conscious of the fact that I had them in because I could not see the back of my head at all times. Is a clip showing? Did the wind just blow an extension out of place? It’s so unattractive and embarrassing to see someone’s extension in their hair and this was pretty much all I was thinking when they were in.
Conclusions
Overall, I had a lot of fun trying out these extensions, but I’m definitely not going to be a daily user of them. I think that if you want to have fun and put them in every once in a while for a photo shoot or special event, they’re perfect for that! But in my personal opinion, I do not want to cause harm to my hair when it is already pretty full and voluptuous.
I think I’m going to wait until my hair actually starts to thin out more before using something like hair extensions on a regular basis. However, if you have thinner hair or feel more confident with a full head of hair, I can definitely recommend Tim Carli as a reliable brand!
Wishing you the best of luck on your hair extension journey; thanks for reading!
